The principle

Converting low/high speed commands into EC control

EC-SWAP converts the low-speed / high-speed command of an asynchronous ventilation motor into a control signal for an EC motor. The existing wiring, distribution board and MCR control system stay in place: no electrician work on the cabinet, and no PLC reprogramming.

One module per air stream. The module takes over the two existing supplies — low speed and high speed — coming from the board, powers the EC motor with three-phase 400 V, generates the 0–10 V setpoint corresponding to the requested speed and returns the fault contact to the control system.

Connection

One module per air stream

Each module is installed as close as possible to the fan. The low-speed and high-speed cables coming from the board are connected as they are: from them the module draws the three-phase 400 V supply for the EC motor, the 24 V DC for the electronics, the 0–10 V command and the alarm feedback to the control system.

Operation

Logic and setpoints

Low/high speed logic

Two logics to choose from at commissioning: low-speed priority, low speed by default, or high-speed priority, high speed modulated.

Local setpoint

Two potentiometers, LOW and HIGH, set the speeds on the module corresponding to low and high speed.

External setpoint

The setpoint can also come from the PLC, via the dedicated logic port (inputs ±30 V DC maximum).

Air quality

Via a CO₂ or VOC sensor in the extract duct: airflow increased when pollution rises, reduced in quiet periods.

Variable airflow via a pressure, air quality or temperature sensor.

Frequently asked questions

Do the distribution board or the MCR control system have to be modified?

No. The module takes the low-speed and high-speed supplies from the existing board exactly as they are. The cabinet, the wiring and the MCR control system stay in place, with no PLC reprogramming.

Which installations is EC-SWAP intended for?

Ventilation systems fitted with a two-speed asynchronous motor (low/high speed) that is being replaced by an EC motor — typically during an air handling unit renovation. One module is needed per air stream.

How is the airflow controlled?

Two logics to choose from at commissioning: low-speed priority or high-speed priority. The speeds are set with the module’s LOW and HIGH potentiometers, by an external PLC setpoint, or from a CO₂ / VOC, pressure or temperature sensor.

Does the installation require a long ventilation shutdown?

The work is limited to replacing the motor and fitting the module as close as possible to the fan. The upgrade can be done in stages, one air stream at a time.

Is EC-SWAP patented?

The technology is patented. The module carries CE marking and complies with WEEE Directive 2012/19/EU.

How do I get a price or check that my installation is compatible?
